How do I get started?

With the guided hybrid home study, you'll be starting at a specific time with your cohort - self-study can start at any time, without the group and one-to-one sessions.
Do I need experience before I start?
You don't need any prior experience, just a willingness to explore something different and open to learning new things. We start from the very basics of theory, move through the foundations of hypnosis and when you've learned the fundamentals, we move on to more advanced techniques. Each lesson builds on the next, so you have a firm grounding in your education.
What is Hypnosis? What is a Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist?
Hypnosis is a completely natural and safe state that we enter into daily. Hypnosis allows us to access our deeper part of mind, the subconscious, where all our habits, beliefs, behaviours, and feelings are stored.
Some people know it as ‘flow’ or ‘in the zone’, or we find ourselves there when we are focused on a book, deadline, or enjoyable activity when time goes by without our being aware of it. If you’ve ever been caught up in the plot of a movie, you’ve experienced hypnosis – where the story may not be real, but we suspend our disbelief so that we get involved in this created reality.
Hypnotherapy or hypnotism allows us to help our clients create access to the subconscious mind ‘on demand’ to assist them in making the changes the need and want in their lives. As a complementary therapy, we help everyday people with everyday problems. This is a consensual state where client and therapist work together to help transform thoughts, feelings and behavior in ways that work better for the client.
How can hypnosis help?
Hypnosis can help people in a number of ways. Some of the most popular services that we deal with are:

A growing area is Corporate or Executive Services (success, sales, self-confidence, drive, change, writing and communications, creativity etc.), which can be done on a one-to-one basis or within a group.
Issues that are medically related (pain, chronic, migraines, arthritis/joint pain, healing, skin conditions) require a medical professional’s referral – hypnosis works with the medical community, not against it.
There are other areas that aren’t mentioned – remember, on the whole we work with everyday people with everyday problems to assist them in living life with greater health and happiness, and more grace and ease. We look at it simply: Work. Play. Love. Live. Better.

What materials are included and how will I access them?
You’ll be getting a LOT of material in different forms so that you have what you need to help you through the whole course and beyond. We will be using the Ruzuku platform with zoom to give you the best experience. Most of the course material will be accessible / downloadable from the platform and we will keep you in the loop for any changes. We have chosen Ruzuku because of its ease of use - we don't want technology to get in the way of learning.
Online Course Materials Package:
Throughout the course you'll have access to different formats of learning, so you’ll be able to collect the information as you need it during your studies. Some of the material will be referred to during the class sessions, while others are reference information for your personal and professional development. We don't just teach for the course - we teach beyond the classroom!
Videos for 10-Day Course: Each "day" will be made up of video files you can download to your computer. Each day is generally made up of four to seven video parts ranging in length between 1 and 2 hours. These videos will make up the bulk of your “classroom” time. Client case studies are included in these videos.
Manuals and Scripts: Material from the National Guild of Hypnotists will be accessible on the training portal. You can download it as a soft copy or print some when you need them.
Checks, Tests, Feedback and Handouts: You will an extensive number of PDF handouts as well as your comprehension ‘tests’, mini assignments, and feedback opportunities. These just make sure that you're learning along with the lessons and to compound the subjects so you feel more comfortable with the content. Some ‘days’ will have more additional material than others. You'll print or access these so you can follow along with the class. You'll be able to schedule your one-to-one sessions with your instructor upon completion of certain lessons.
Hypnosis Explained: This can be your “Pre-Talk Video” you use with clients. We’ll be going over all the aspects mentioned in this introduction to hypnosis and the mind during your first day of class and you can continue to use it once you are doing the work upon graduation. This video is less than 20 minutes long.
Supplementary Videos: In addition to your classroom time, you also have hours of bonus material to supplement the course. These include classroom examples of therapy, media clips, and student practice and presentations. These additional hours are not required for the course, but are strongly recommended so that you have additional insight and more of a perspective and experience in the “classroom setting”.
Articles: This data files include “Hypnosis and Media” with articles written by your instructor or written about hypnosis. They can be printed out and used to support your clients in understanding more about hypnosis as well as reassuring them that this is a well publicized, helpful field. “Research Articles” are a number of research papers done on aspects of hypnosis in the scientific community. “Articles on Mind and Client Issues ” includes articles with relevant subjects for hypnotists – these are the areas our clients will need help with. Look them over to get a different perspective on areas of focus you might be interested in while doing this work.
Self-Hypnosis Deepening Track: When you learn self-hypnosis during the course, there will be a suggestion that you listen to a deepening audio. This audio will help deepen your practice of self-hypnosis and can be used in supporting clients in their self-hypnosis practice as well. This audio is about 12 minutes long.
Hypnosis Audios: For your reference, you have a number of examples of hypnosis subject areas recorded. These audios will give you an idea of what you can do to support your clients with direct suggestion recordings. You have been provided with a number of recordings.
Add to all this your classroom sessions and meetings with your instructor and you have all the material you need for the course.
What Certifications do I get?
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible as a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) as a Consulting Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist (depending on your location). You will also receive a Master Hypnotist certification with Grey Matter Network LLC
Grey Matter Network supports their certified graduates after the class (whether on-site or home study) through continuing professional development. Certification is just the start to a lifetime of practice and learning!
What will I be able to do with hypnosis after this course?
Our goal is to give you the tools you need to help a wide variety of issues for individuals and groups using hypnosis.
Many of our graduates start businesses that focus on Hypnotherapy and Hypnotism in their home town – while many choose to work full time, others can select their hours to work around other priorities in their lives, because this work allows for you to designate the amount of time you choose to work in this field. Others add the power of the subconscious mind to their existing careers to augment their tools and resources.
Others find that they are busy supporting the people they care about and their community. Your direction is up to you - hypnosis can fit into your life in many ways.
What's the difference between a Consulting Hypnotist/ Hypnotherapist?
This is something we’ll discuss once we’ve started the course. The difference between the label of Hypnotherapist, Hypnotist and Consulting Hypnotist is one that is followed due to local legal restrictions of occupational names. No matter the final name, our high-quality and thorough training is the same for all.
Is there a practical section? Who do I practice with?
Practice is an important part of the class and there will be ‘assignments’ where you need to find someone to work with. While you can practice on ‘invisible’ clients (and practicing processes yourself is a great idea to build up muscle memory), you’ll get more immediate feedback from another person.
Usually when our students mention that they are taking this course, friends and family will line up to be ‘practiced’ on, so finding volunteers has never been a problem with home study students to date. Because of our wide network of hypnotherapist and consulting hypnotists around the world, should there be a Grey Matter Network graduate in your area, you will have an opportunity to connect with them – these grads are not only successful but generous as well.
What are the advantages of the Home Study Course?
You have control over your time. You can work through the program at your own speed. You can work around the other important things in your life. This is a course that works on YOUR schedule. You can learn anywhere. Wherever you choose to watch the videos and practice, you can do it. If you have a busy travelling schedule, you can bring your classroom with you. While the hybrid home study class has group sessions, they are spread over a period of time, and just tend to give a little structure. You can meet your instructor wherever you are during the course. This flexibility allows you to be in charge of your time and location – two areas that you’ll continue to have control over once you have successfully graduated from this class.
What are the challenges of the Home Study program?
The Home Study program is for a special sort of person. There is a certain amount of self-direction required as you won’t be part of a group all the time and will need to set your own schedule. While you’ll be working with your classmates and instructor throughout the entire process in the portal, you’ll be in charge of keeping track of your own hours and schedule appointments when you are finished your segments. For the practice component you’ll need to find your own volunteers – usually that’s quite easy as once people know you’re learning hypnosis you might have a line of people who want to be your next ‘victim’!
